The Best 4-Player Sleepover Games, Ranked by Chaos

Pizza on the floor, sleeping bags nobody intends to sleep in, one TV, four controllers. If you grew up in the late 90s or 2000s, you already know the games — but which one was THE game says everything about your friend group. Ranked, scientifically, by chaos.

5. Mario Party (any of them)

The friendship-ender with dice. Nobody remembers who won; everybody remembers who stole whose star. Mario Party nights didn't end because the game ended — they ended because someone's mom said it was time to go home, mid-argument. Chaos rating: emotional.

4. Mario Kart 64 / Double Dash

The great equalizer. Your friend who was terrible at everything else somehow lived on Rainbow Road. Blue shells taught a generation about injustice. Double Dash added co-op karts, which meant you could now blame a specific person for the loss. Chaos rating: high, but affectionate.

3. GoldenEye 007

Four quadrants of screen and absolutely no honor. The house rules were always the same — no Oddjob, no screen-peeking — and they were always broken, in that order. Someone camped the body armor every single match and denied it every single time. Chaos rating: Geneva-Convention adjacent.

2. Super Smash Bros. Melee

The one that turned sleepovers into training camps. Somebody's older brother knew wavedashing and ruined everything. Items-on Final Destination purists and items-off tournament kids, same living room, irreconcilable worldviews. Melee nights are why some of us still flinch at the Home-Run Bat sound. Chaos rating: competitive scarring.

1. Halo (the LAN sleepover)

The endgame: two TVs, two Xboxes, a system-link cable somebody's dad definitely needed back, and eight kids yelling across a hallway. Blood Gulch at 2 a.m. is a core memory for an entire generation. Chaos rating: maximum — this one required logistics.

Honorable mentions: Gauntlet Legends, TimeSplitters 2, Wrestlemania 2000 (create-a-wrestler slander), and Bomberman, the quiet assassin of friendships.

Here's the thing about all five: the consoles that hosted those nights are still out there, in closets and attics all over the OKC metro, usually with the controllers still tangled in the same bag. OK Retro Buys pays cash for them — consoles, games, controllers, whole bins. Send a photo to the page, get an offer, and someone else's sleepover gets its starting lineup back.

What was THE game at your sleepovers? Wrong answers welcome.
