# Loose Figures, Full Story: How We Look At A Toy Bin
Nobody's toy bin is mint. Let's start there, because it's the thing people apologize for most when they send us a photo — "they're all loose," "some are missing pieces," "my brother chewed that one's hand." Friends: loose is the normal condition of a childhood. Toys that got played with look played with. We know. It's fine. It's actually the point.
Here's what we're really looking at when a tub photo comes in.
The bottom of the bin is the good part
Every tub stratifies the same way: big figures and vehicles on top, and then, down in the sediment, the layer that matters — the accessories. The little guns, the capes, the swords, the backpack that clips on, the missile that actually fires. Loose accessories are the hardest thing in the hobby to find on their own, which makes the gravel at the bottom of your bin quietly interesting to people trying to complete a figure they've had for thirty years.
This is also why we say don't sort. The instinct is to fish out the "complete" figures and present those; the bag of bits you were about to write off rides along with real value in it.
The weird ones matter more than they should
In every bin there's a figure that makes everyone go "what is that?" Not the hero, not the main character — the odd one. The variant with the strange paint, the mail-away nobody remembers sending for, the figure from a line that lasted one summer. Those oddballs are often more interesting than the famous names, precisely because fewer of them survived. Don't judge your bin by whether you recognize what's in it. Sometimes the unrecognizable one is the headline.
(True story from this very page's history: a loose little gun nobody could identify turned out to belong to a comic-con exclusive figure, and the people who knew, knew instantly. The bits have fans.)
What "don't fix anything" means
Three well-meant improvements to skip before the photo:
- Don't clean. A gentle dusty figure is honest; an aggressive scrub can take paint with it.
- Don't repair. Glue is nearly always the wrong answer, and a re-glued joint is worse than a loose one.
- Don't match pieces to figures. Genuinely fun as a puzzle, genuinely unnecessary — and wrong guesses tangle the story.
The bin as it sits, top popped, one photo. That's the whole ask. We'll tell you what we're seeing, come back with a real cash number for the lot, and pick up or meet, whichever suits you. OKC metro.
The figures were loved. That was always the best thing about them. 🦖
