The question we get asked more than any other isn't about price. It's some version of "is this even worth anything in the condition it's in?"

Almost always, the answer is yes. And the reason is worth explaining, because most people are working from an assumption that only applies to a tiny slice of what we buy.

The mint-in-box idea is doing you a disservice

Somewhere along the way, everyone learned that collectibles are only valuable sealed. It's a half-truth that has cost a lot of people money, because it gets applied to the wrong things.

Sealed matters enormously for a narrow category — a genuinely rare game still in shrink, a figure that never left its bubble. For everything else, the market that actually exists is made of people who want the thing so they can use it. They want to play the game. They want the figure on the shelf. They want the console hooked up to the TV in the basement.

Those buyers do not care about your box. Some of them actively prefer no box, because it costs less.

What "incomplete" is really worth

Here's the part that surprises people most. An incomplete playset is not worth nothing — it's worth its parts, and its parts have their own buyers.

A vehicle missing its ramp still sells to somebody who has the ramp and not the vehicle. A figure missing a weapon sells to somebody rebuilding a set from three different lots. The accessories loose in the bottom of the tub — the ones you were going to throw away — are often the pieces other people have been hunting for years.

This is why we ask for a photo of the whole tub rather than a list of what's complete. The sorting you'd do to make it "presentable" is the exact sorting that separates pieces from the things they belong to.

The list, plainly

To save you the guesswork, here's what we take off your hands:

• Action figures — any era, any line, loose or boxed
• Playsets — including the big awkward ones, and the ones with parts missing
• Vehicles and accessories — the loose bits count
• Games, consoles and handhelds — working or not-quite
• The whole tub — the one that came from the last house and never got opened

And what we don't need:

• Sorting it first. Genuinely. Leave it exactly as it is.

Why we'd rather you didn't tidy up

There's a practical reason and an honest one.

The practical reason: sorted piles lose information. Once the accessories are in one bag and the figures are in another, nobody can tell what went with what, and the pieces that were worth the most as a set are now worth the least as singles.

The honest one: sorting is the step that stops people. A tub takes one photo. A tub that needs to be organized first takes a Saturday, and the Saturday never comes. We'd rather see the photo this week than the tidy version in a year.

Send the photo as it sits

Open the lid, take one picture from where you're standing, and send it over. If it's dusty, tangled, and half-loose, that's the normal case — not the exception.
